Appetite for Destruction - Guns n' Roses (1987)

The biggest-selling debut album of the Eighties, Appetitefeatures a lot more than the yowl of Indiana-bred W. Axl Rose, the only thing still remaining of the original G n' R. Some of the band's assets were in fact subtle, such as drummer Steven Adler, who brought swing and disco breakdowns to the band's mighty metal. And while songs such as "Welcome to the Jungle" are all about urban pain, others, including "Sweet Child o' Mine" and "Paradise City," have sweet, yearning lyrics that put the band's musical ferocity in even higher relief. "A lot of rock bands are too fucking wimpy to have any sentiment or any emotion," Rose said, "unless they're in pain."

Total album sales: 15 million

Peak chart position: 1

A great album in my opinion. Future albums were great, but every track on this one meant something. It stood for the late eighties. I really hope they can match the thunder of this album when/if they ever release a new album. One of their new guitarists, Buckethead (seriously, he wears a KFC bucket on his head and what looks like a Michael Myers mask on his face), is a very skilled guitarist, although a bit odd.

I loved that album. It's one of the best of all time. Thats just cause I love GNR though. Some ppl would say that Rolling stones had way better albums, but I never liked the Rolling stones. I thin that Appetite for destruction was a great album, I'd recomend it and I'd give it a very hiogh ranking. :headbang:

One song on that album holds a special place in my heart, my daughter was just a little over 2 years old and when she'd hear the opening chords of "Sweet Child O' Mine" on MTV or VH1 she'd barrell through the house and crash in front of the TV. It was kinda like what the women would do when Elvis came on stage, it was hilarious to think that Axl Rose was her first love. I miss those days, she's all grown up now and thinks the band Orgy is hot..........eeeeeewww

With my daughter it was Micheal Jackson. She's an adult now. You're right about missing those days. I do too.

:(

My first love was Shawn Cassidy, but then I left him for Andy Gibb. Shawn just couldnt commit!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
