funny because all the GSM providers here have waaay shitty service. My verizon never drops out anywhere. The only time it doesn't work is in basements of all the buildings at school. But from Winter Park, Colorado to Maui my phone is great. All my friends with t-mobile complain about all the dropped calls.

T-Mobile... oh man don't get me started. About a year ago I switched to Verizon.

With T-Mobile, I was losing calls left and right. My phone was freaking possessed and calling people randomly, hanging up on people randomly, and hanging up when I tried to check my voice mail. THEN, I lost service in my basement... this slowly turned into me losing service in my entire house... until I was standing outside, in the middle of the road to talk to people. It was ridiculous.

Verizon has been better... except lately. The same shit it starting again... with the service anyways. Losing the calls in my house that is. And everywhere else.

the article doesn't mention what, to me, is the most important part of why cellphones are better over here and in EU: cause only the caller pays for the damn airtime; my bills were like 150$/month in NYC but here they're like under 10 quid/18$ a month. :)

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
