ahhh, the joys of broadband, routers, gateways, hardware firewalls and SPEED!!..i love it...but i digress....some geekly advice please....i have a D-LINK ADSL router with 4 ports...2 computers connected to it at the moment..my main pc and my wifes laptop...i have heard many people say that if you use a router with a built-in hardware firewall (as mine has)...that you don`t need to run a software firewall..i have also heard just as many say that you still need to run a software firewall as well to be really sure that nothing gets thru..i emailed the regional D-Link agent in aussie and he said to me that the default settings on my router would be sufficient and that he didn`t see the need for another firewall to be running....i am currently running the latest nvidia network manager and firewall that came bundled with my nvidia network drivers...it`s pretty good too...any thoughts on this please...... :)

You still need a firewall, as the router only blocks incoming. With a software firewall it can block both ways. This is a good thought, especially for folks who are often downloading differant applications, not to mention the possible opening of an infected e-mail. This way if you get a worm, or trojan on your pc, and its trying to infect others you will know about it, and be able to stop it.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
