Nitin Sawhney

Nitin Sawhney ... always brings in the finest musicians to play on his records... like Natacha Atlas and Neenah Cherry.

His two best albums are Beyond Skin and Prophesy.

Prophesy is probably the most accessible of the two ..with highlights being the songs Acquired Dreams, Cold & Intimate and Sunrise.

He uses electronic beats..lush orchestration...interspersed with Indian tabla drumming and katak beats.

He even samples 'airport announcements' and tribal chants to give the music a kind of Pink Floyd-meets-Portishead and-goes-to-India vibe.

First rate musicianship and production values.

Great for headphones!!

Having just listened to a selection of Nitin Sawhney... I'm a little stunned at the diversity. I dont know if it could really be pinned down to 'world music' any more than another category.

I'm impressed :D

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
