Heh the movie is Donnie Darko

It's a cult favorite with a lot of people in the Hollywood sci-fi creative community...

I have finally discovered how to enjoy any movie. Don't expect anything. Don't ask people, don't read, don't watch trailers. Just watch the movie and take it with no expectations. Donnie Darko is one of those movies that can REALLY suck, if you go in with expectations. The pacing is really grinding at the start, but if you pay attention and make it to the end... it leaves you with one of those... whoa, wtf just happened kind of feelings. Then again, I'm talking out of the side of my neck, because I refuse to watch chick flics....

i agree w/you, Shithead (you don't mind me calling you that for short, do you?) :) about not having expectations. but don't get me wrong--we liked the idea of the film, the story and all. but there was something about the execution...i don't really remember what it was at the moment. when we run out of new shit to watch, i'll rent it again and report back (if i remember).

Actually, I don't... Kinda why I hung it out there. Deflates flames a little when you insult yourself, eh?

But I know... I rented movies last night, and looked at the director's cut. I have MVP at Hollywood Video... so it would have been free. I instead decided to watch The Last Dragon, again. The hardest part about Donnie Darko is the pace... the pace for the most part is very, very lethargic. I love the movie, but it's not one I can watch over and over.

i too have an interest in time travel (also parallel universes and other stuff that's not the reality we all know and hat--i mean love). and i love when films fuck w/your mind. i watched 'memento' a couple of hundred times after we got it, just to figure shit out.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
