at the risk of showing my age, most of the popstars i hear sound like backup singers from the 60s and 70s. sorry, everyone--it's my old ears or something. then again, i hear the scissors sisters and they remind me of the beegees after they went disco in the 70s. *puke*

*ducks* hahahahaha.

funnily enough, pet man (34) agrees w/me. :) (then again, he's a headbanger from way back.) his yuppie colleagues are into pop and he's in torture like 9-5 every day (so he's taken to wearing his headphones in order not to kill them all). last week he sent me mail saying 'i'm dying here, the scissors sisters are mutilating the clash's 'police and thieves.' i told him to shoot the damn boombox and be done w/it once and for all.

deffinatly micheal jackson. i think he influenced everyone in todays music. johnny freeman is one of my faves and he sounds just like MJ.

I agree. He was so big before that almost every artist wanted to be like him. Even up to now, you can still hear his influence on a number of musical artists....

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
