I put Annie's vocal on yesterday at ascap. She moved the lyrics around, so it's taking me a while to get used to this. I'm even pitching the song under a slightly different title. I want Annie to perform my songs with her band and also for youtube, so that means I have to meet her halfway. This is our second song. One more, and I'll submit them to ascap's Creative Services. It used to be that I could get an appointment with a writer rep right away. Now, the staff screens songs before giving appointments. Nothing is easy. I may be crazy for trying to do this at 68, but music has me by the balls. I sang karaoke last night until I was so exhausted I barely remember driving home. I'm waiting for a new CD from Little Big Town while trying to find Annie a record deal and myself a publishing deal.

SO COUNTRY I COULD DIE

I know every song Reba ever sang
I can't resist that good old country twang
I wave my flag every 4th of July
I feel So Country I could Die

Done every line dance, square dance, and two-step do-si-do
When I step out, I dress in western clothes
An American girl looking up to the sky
I feel So Country I Could Die

Well, I'm looking for a man who's looking for a girl
Who knows just how she feels
I'm looking for a man who's looking for a girl
Who's looking for something real

I grew up on a farm
I learned how to live in the south
Come on, city boy, I'll show you how
When I love a man, I never say goodbye
I feel So Country I Could Die
Oh yeah

solo

I'm looking for a man who's looking for a girl
Who knows just how she feels
I'm looking for a man who's looking for a girl
Who's looking for something real

I grew up on a farm
I learned how to live in the south
Come on, city boy, I'll show you how
When I love a man, I never say goodbye
I feel So Country I Could Die
I said I feel So Country I Could Die

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
