  1. Here is the Billboard review: Dance-Music Duo Thievery Corp. Goes 'Cosmic' Fri Jan 28,11:20 PM ET By Michael Paoletta NEW YORK (Billboard) - With three studio albums to its credit, Washington, D.C.-based duo Thievery Corporation has effortlessly crafted a musical style that many have dubbed the Thievery Corporation sound. Warm, lush and elegant, that sound has been influenced by hip-hop, dub, bossa nova, dance/electronic, soul and jazz. While the act's fourth full-length recording, "The Cosmic Game," retains these elements, it also finds Thievery Corporation's Eric Hilton and Rob Garza sneaking in some hefty dollops of psychedelic pop and alternative rock. The duo's rhythmically rich sound just got richer and more mature. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...sic_thievery_dc
  2. TheFinding Neverland soundtrack CD (Decca) delivers sentimentality with perfect resonance. Polish composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek tries not to imitate popular film composer sentimentality and wildly succeeds. His quiet music underscores many whispers in the movie, leaving a delicate sound that frequents minor tones as the story progresses... sadly magical. Listening to this music prepared especially for the "apart from the film" experience, we hear these whispers in the way the music moves... like quaking aspen leaves, or glinting fairy dust by way of a setting sun. The most fascinating highlights on the CD are Leszek Mozdzer's solo piano performances, some of which are not heard in the film, nor were intended for any scene in the film. True to subject, Mozdzer took advantage of leftover recording time and magically improvised variations on Kaczmarek's themes and, perhaps with closed eyes, brought a piano to life... leaving our imaginations afire. 4. Isaac Hayes perhaps best know as Chef on 'South Park' By Jim Abbott The Orlando Sentinel February 4, 2005 Isaac Hayes is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He wrote more than 200 soul classics such as "When Something is Wrong with My Baby" and "Soul Man" with collaborator David Porter. Not to mention writing and performing the eternally cool theme from "Shaft." He owns restaurants, acts in TV and movies, does his own radio show, champions child literacy and is officially a West African king in Ghana. So how weird is it that his biggest claim to fame seems to be his cartoon role as soulful Chef McElroy in "South Park. Read more here: http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/features/s...tures-headlines

  7. PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's touching video tribute to late DROWNING POOL frontman Dave Williams has been posted online at DROWNING POOL's official web site. The 14-minute collection of highlights from home videos that Dimebag edited himself was originally included on DROWNING POOL's "Sinema" DVD, which was released in November 2002 through Wind-Up. The 30-year-old Williams was found dead on the DROWNING POOL tour bus on August 14, 2002 while the band were touring as part of the U.S.Ozzfest. An inquest into the singer's death in September 2002 concluded that Williams died from cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle disease for which he was never diagnosed. No traces of drugs were found in the vocalist's system, finally dispelling widespread speculation about the cause of his death. Dimebag and three others were killed by a deranged gunman on December 8, 2004 at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. 8. Date With Dynasty: Super Bowl XXXIX LAST UPDATE: 2/6/2005 11:44:07 AM Tony Moss -NFL Editor (Sports Network) - A place in NFL history will be among the sumptuous rewards for either the New England Patriots or Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, as the two prominent members of the NFL elite meet in Super Bowl XXXIX at Jacksonville's ALLTEL Stadium. The Patriots, champions of the AFC, will be vying for their third Super Bowl title in four years, a feat that has previously been achieved by only the 1992-95 Dallas Cowboys. New England, which is a perfect 8-0 in the playoffs under head coach Bill Belichick, was a 32-29 winner over Carolina in Super Bowl XXXVIII, and previously earned a 20-17 victory against St. Louis in Super Bowl XXXVI. The Patriots are attempting to become the first team since the 1997-98 Denver Broncos to claim back-to-back titles, and with a win would become the seventh franchise to have three Super Bowl victories to its credit. The Pats' postseason road included decisive victories over Indianapolis (20-3) in an AFC Divisional Playoff and Pittsburgh (41-27) in the AFC Championship. The Eagles, meanwhile, have finally found a spot on the Super Bowl stage after sustaining three consecutive conference championship game heartbreaks from 2001 to 2003. Philadelphia's 27-10 triumph over Atlanta in the 2004 NFC title game sent the franchise to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1980 season, with the 24-year hiatus ranking as the second-longest gap in appearances in league annals. Andy Reid's squad will be contending for what would be the franchise's first-ever Lombardi Trophy, as well as the first major sports championship for the City of Philadelphia since the 76ers won the 1983 NBA title. The Eagles won three NFL titles in the pre-Super Bowl era, earning the crown in 1948, 1949 and 1960. In addition to the aforementioned win over the Falcons, Philly's 2004 postseason ledger includes a 27-14 victory over Minnesota in an NFC Divisional Playoff. http://www.woai.com/news/national/story.as...B3-B622B91F2342
  9. jurisprudence The law, lawyers, and the court. Never Can Say Goodbye Can Michael Jackson stop being a freak to save his life? By Dahlia Lithwick Posted Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at 3:10 PM PT Following the Michael Jackson trial is not an enterprise for the weak of stomach. For those who eschew cable TV and tabloids, or avoid the European and Asian newspapers—which treat this as legitimate front-page news—details about this case are hazy: Jackson stands accused of 10 felony counts—including molesting a 13-year-old cancer patient—while Jackson counters that this child's mother is a deranged fortune hunter who in the past has set her kids up for shakedowns at J.C. Penney. You may vaguely know that jury selection began this week in the small coastal town of Santa Maria, Calif., and that Santa Barbara District Attorney Tom Sneddon is embroiled in the grudge match of his life—having been thwarted in a remarkably similar sex prosecution in 1993, after Jackson settled with his young accuser for an alleged $20 million. Under Jewish law, a mohel -- someone who performs circumcisions -- draws blood from the circumcision wound. Most mohels do it by hand, but Fischer uses a rare practice where he uses his mouth.. ***
