  1. As we reported, Empire star Jussie Smollett was assaulted in Chicago late on Monday (January 28). Smollett was grabbing some grub at Subway at around 2 AM. While outside, two men wearing masks reportedly screamed out, "Aren't you that fa**ot "Empire" n*****?" They then attacked Smollett, who attempted to fight back but was overwhelmed. The two men beat him down, fracturing his rib. Before the left, they allegedly poured bleach on him, placed a rope around his neck and exclaimed, "This is MAGA country." Smollett took himself to the hospital at the time, but has been discharged since. Prior to the attack, Fox Studios in Chicago was sent a threatening homophobic letter addressed to Smollett. The letter was sent a week before the attack. According to TMZ, Fox stepped up security for the entire cast after the letter was received. They also offered Smollett off the clock security to protect him at all times, but the actor turned down the extra muscle. TMZ claims their sources say Smollett felt that extra security would be intrusive while shadowing him off the clock. The FBI and Chicago police are currently investigating the threatening message, attempting to discover if the letter and the attack are connected. View the full article
  2. The next Avengers film is only three months away, which means we're in the endgame now. Infinity War left millions shocked, but there's one scene at the beginning of the film that is being used to formulate a much bigger theory about Tony Stark. In the opening scene for Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, they are walking through a park when Stark reveals that he had a dream. The billionaire superhero explains that he dreamed Pepper was pregnant, to which she claims she is not. An old interview with Pepper Pots actress Gwyneth Paltrow says otherwise though. Sean Gallup/Getty Images Via CinemaBlend, Paltrow was quoted in 2018 stating, "Pepper and Tony have had a real long journey together. She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they're married, and they have a child. Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve." A child?!? It would make sense that Tony's dream would come true, acting as a foreshadowing device for the future. Clever. If Tony Stark and Pepper Potts are having a baby, will Disney really kill off the new father? Fans don't think so. A child also gives Iron-Man a great reason to retire (for good this time), and fund the Avengers from behind the scenes. It's only a theory, and we'll have to wait until Endgame touches down in April to find out the truth. View the full article
  3. Tyrese and his ex-wife Norma Gibson have a tumultuous relationship that has yielded many headlines over the years. Now, TMZ is reporting that there is more trouble in the shattered paradise. The media site is reporting that Tyrese was enraged when he learned that Norma flew out of the country on vacation, and left their daughter Shayla with a friend. Ty is heated that Norma didn't just alert him so he could take care of his daughter, instead of dumping her with a third party. In a new court filing obtained by TMZ, Tyrese claims Norma dropped the kid off to a classmate for a one-night sleepover, while she headed to Trinidad. Shayla was returned to Tyrese a day later. The R&B singer and actor says he learned about the sleepover after the fact, with no warning from Norma. Allegedly, Norma violated a court order from 2014 that gives him the right of first refusal in this type of scenario. A judge ruled that if Norma were to leave town, that Tyrese needs to be notified. Norma must appear in court now to justify leaving her child with a third party just one day before Ty's custody kicked back in. If she doesn't, she risks being held in contempt of court. 4. Tyga can't seem to escape the sphere of Kardashian influence. He famously dated Kylie Jenner before she moved on to Travis Scott, but Daily Mail is reporting that Tyga may be getting comfortable with Jenner's friend. The media site reports that Australian Instagram model Tammy Hembrow and Tyga were hanging out at Rolling Loud Australia in Sydney on Sunday (January 27). “Tammy spent all night backstage (or on the side of the stage) as if she was his girlfriend,” a source told Daily Mail Australia. The source claims Hembrow was "following" Tyga around the country for his entire tour, adding that they are "100 percent together." The source continued on to state, "they traveled up to Brisbane separately and hooked up again later on. She's basically doing his whole Australian tour with him." Tammy's sister and spokeswoman, Amy Hembrow, told Daily Mail Australia that the model is not dating Tyga though. "Everyone is just friends," she stated. "Tammy had backstage passes with a couple of friends for the festival, including our [other] sister who was also there. We were all invited, everyone is just friends and were having fun dancing at a festival. This has just been taken out of context." Or has it? View the full article
  5. Blood Orange's Negro Swan album was underrated to the masses, but artists around the industry took notice. Blood Orange, or Devonté “Dev” Hynes, was featured on a number of projects including Mariah Carey's Caution, MadeInTYO's Sincerely Tokyo, and more. Dev has been in the game for awhile, but his path is somewhat convoluted by name and group changes. He was a part of the group Test Icicles as a guitarist and occasional vocalist before he changed his name to Lightspeed Champion and dropped a couple albums himself. After phasing out the Lightspeed Champion name, Dev converted to Blood Orange, and has been delivering soulful tracks ever since. Dev stopped by NPR to perform for their intimate concert series Tiny Desk, and he brought along his patented eclectic style. The show starts with a spoken word performance by Ashlee Haze, the poet who was sampled on Blood Orange's Freetown Sound single “By Ourselves.” Singer/songwriters Ian Isiah and Eva Tolkin also joined Dev during the spiritual performance. The entire experience will leave you with feel-good vibes all day. Blood Orange expertly performs “Jewelry,” “Dagenham Dream,” and “Holy Will." Check out the performance below and let us know what you think in the comments. View the full article

  7. It was only a matter of time before rappers began to incorporate the graphic content of Netflix's hit movie Bird Box into a music video. Hopsin came through with a new single on Monday (January 28), and now he has returned with a music video for the track just a day later. Titled "You Should've Known," Hopsin's latest track features Dax. Hopsin is credited as the director for the "You Should've Known" visuals, which begin with two women spotting the demons that cause people to kill themselves in Bird Box. After the first of the two ladies walks into Hopsin's speeding car, killing herself, the madness begins. People are mobbing in the streets, committing suicide, and freaking out in general as violence and blood surround them. To no one's surprise, Hopsin ends up playing a villain who exposes a group of survivors to the mystical demons. This is one insane music video. View the full article
  8. J. Cole has been on a roll since last year when he touched down with KOD. Since then he has slaughtered a plethora of features and orchestrated the meeting of the minds last month for Dreamville's Revenge Of The Dreams III. He also dropped the scorcher "Middle Child" last week. The hot streak will continue for Cole, as the NBA just announced that the Dreamville boss is set to headline the All-Star Halftime show this year. The All-Star game will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina on February 17. Cole famously set up a basketball-themed narrative for his mixtapes The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights. He kept the theme going for his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story. Now, Cole's passion for basketball will collide with the biggest event in the NBA prior to the Finals. Meek Mill will also perform for the introduction of the All-Star teams. Anthony Hamilton, a native of Charlotte, will perform the national anthem while Carly Rae Jepsen will be performing the Canadian national anthem. LeBron James is the captain for the West, while Giannis Antetokounmpo will lead the East. The remainder of the Western All-Stars starting line up includes James Harden, Steph Curry, Paul George, and Kevin Durant. For the East, Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, Joel Embiid, and Kawhi Leonard will join the Greek Freak. The All-Star Game draft (for the remaining rosters) will be televised live on TNT February 7 at 7 PM ET. View the full article

  10. Small Professor is getting ready to release a collaborative project with the late Sean Price. 86 Witness is due out on February 8th via Duck Down and Coal Mind Records. Ahead of the project's release, Small Pro releases a new cut off the project titled, "John Gotti." The song features AG da Coroner, Guilty Simpson, and Your Old Droog and also serves as the first single from the project. Small Pro and Sean Price began working on the project prior to Price's death in 2015. The producer explained to Complex how the song came about. "As Evidence once eloquently tweeted, 'P fucked with me, nobody can ever take that away from me.' Working with Sean Price was a pleasure and an honor, and I am confident that he would have loved how 86 Witness turned out. Though we never met face to face, the musical chemistry between us was tangible and real and I'm so very glad the world can finally hear what came from our combined forces. P!" He said. Peep the new song below and keep your eyes peeled for 86 Witness. 11. Rico Nasty solidified herself as one artist to look out for in 2019 after having the biggest year of her career in 2018. The rapper released his major label debut, Nasty which received critical praise and landed on numerous year-end lists. She began releasing several one-off singles following the project's release including "Wanna Do," "Guap (LaLaLa)," and "Big Dick Energy." Now, she's back with her first release of the year, "Roof." Rico Nasty comes through with her abrasive new single, "Roof." The new single connects Rico Nasty with Kenny Beats who is also coming off of a highly productive year. Rico hops on an aggressive punk-infused instrumental while honing into her inner-Joan Jett. This song could possibly be on an upcoming project between Rico and Kenny. Earlier this month, he tweeted that he and Rico wrapped up a project within five days. When it drops remains a mystery but given the release of "Roof," it could be soon. 12. Ski Mask The Slump God had a major breakout year in 2018 after catching a major buzz in 2017. The rapper released two projects -- Beware The Book of Eli and Stokeley -- along with numerous loose singles and collaborations. The rapper definitely has no plans on slowing down this year. Earlier today, the rapper took to Twitter to reveal that he has a song with one of hip-hop's DMX. "Dmx And Me On The Same Song Soon," he wrote on Twitter. It's unsure when exactly that's going to drop but the thought of DMX and Ski Mask The Slump God doesn't seem far fetched. In fact, if properly executed, this could be a pretty solid collaboration. News of the track comes a few days after DMX was released from prison. The rapper spent the past year behind bars for tax evasion charges before his release on Friday. Interestingly enough, Ski Mask The Slump God put the thought into the Twittersphere before confirming the collab today. "Dmx Is Free Soon , I’m Trying To Make A Song With Him," he wrote. Clearly, Ski Mask The Slump God is an exception to his feelings towards hip-hop right now. During a visit to Big Boy's Neighborhood, X said that he feels that rap, as an art form, is being misrepresented by the younger generation. "They're all promoting drug use. If that’s what you wanna do, that's your business, but you ain't gotta promote it like it's cool and make it cool. Kids walk around like, I'm popping molly, I'm popping percs," he explained. X already performed his first show since his release. Now, we wait for his first track. View the full article
  13. Halsey recently opened up to Glamour about how she navigated her public breakup with G-Eazy. She contemplated how to address the situation. The singer even considered engaging with social media users via live stream but eventually opted to share her insights through her songwriting. The biggest lesson I learned was to make art, not headlines,” she said. “Because it can become quite easy, in the social media generation, to go from being a musician to becoming a personality. "Without Me" hit the airwaves as a result. Her lyrics exposed the risk of losing sight of one's self for the sake of a loved one.“I call myself a collector; I collect things from people and use them to widen my artistic repertoire so that I am writing from a culmination of experiences from the world,” she continues “But I’m an imitator as well because I’m so passionately putting myself in other people’s shoes all the time.” “I beat myself up for a long time. I was like, You’re fucking spineless. Why do you have to become everyone you’re around? Why do you have to imitate all of their interests, all of their fucking mannerisms, and their personality? Why can’t you just know who the fuck you are and be strong in that? But I realized that will never happen," she said. "So instead I started surrounding myself with people I admire and really like.” Read the full piece here. View the full article
  14. It's been a minute since Frank Ocean came through with some new music. Fans have been eagerly waiting for him to release his follow-up to his 2016 critically acclaimed album, Blonde. He's yet to make any formal announcements on any new music but rumors hit the Internet earlier this week saying his project Endless will finally make its way to streaming services. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Frank Ocean recently made his Instagram page public and has been quietly looking through the 'Gram. @frankoceanblonded, a Frank Ocean fan page, posted a screenshot of a tweet from Billboard saying the project will be making its way to streaming services. However, Frank Ocean quickly slid in the comment section with a "Fake News" along with lightning bolt emojis. The report was initially made by Billboard last week who said their sources told them the video album was making its way onto streaming services as early as Jan 25th. However, other sources told them that it's been pushed back but will be available for streaming in the near future. Endless has an interesting story behind it. The project was released a day before Blonde but the project fulfilled "Frank's obligations to Def Jam and Universal" which ultimately meant that he was free to release Blonde independently through his own record label, Boys Don't Cry. 15. Soulja Boy screeching Drake's name will live on as one of the funniest moments on The Breakfast Club. The clip of him yelling "DRAAAAAAAKE?!" turned into a viral meme that managed to work its way onto Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" segment. The SNL cast clowned parodied Big Draco's appearance on the Breakfast Club last week. While he was upset by all the rappers that made him viral for his "TYGAA?!" meme, he praised the cast of Saturday Night Live for parodying him. In the skit, Redd nails his impression of Big Draco as Michael Che asks him his thoughts on Donald Trump. “Trump? TRUMP?! The dude that got bodied by the popular vote?” Redd responded. Speaking to Variety, Soulja Boy spoke nothing short of praise for Chris Redd who took on the role of Soulja Boy -- Gucci headband and all. “That s— was dope,” he said. “I loved it! It was amazing. I made it to Saturday Night Live without actually having to be there physically!” Soulja Boy added that he appreciated that the cast threw out the idea of running for president in 2020. “They made that up on they own. I never said nothin’ about running for president, but I like the skit a lot though. It was nice," he said. In other Soulja Boy/Drake-related news, new reports claim that the two have some new music on the way. When we'll hear it remains a mystery but we haven't heard the two on wax since "We Made it." 16. James Ingram is the latest music legend to depart from this world. The singer influence spans across generations with his songwriting from prominent artists like Ray Charles and Michael Jackson on top of his own hits. His collaboration with Patti Austin, "Baby Come To Me," may be the most popular of his chart-topping catalog. Many are mourning the loss of the Grammy Award winner, including his longtime friend Debbie Allen. Their statements serve as confirmation of the devastating news. Michael Kovac/FilmMagic Quincy Jones, one of Ingram's frequent collaborators, issued a statement in his honor. “There are no words to convey how much my heart aches with the news of the passing of my baby brother James Ingram," Jones said. "With that soulful, whisky sounding voice, James Ingram was simply magical. From the minute I first heard his voice on the demo tape for 'Just Once,' to 'One Hundred Ways,' his classic duet with Patti Austin 'How Do You Keep the Music Playing,' 'Secret Garden,' 'We Are the World,' and all of our recordings, every beautiful note that James sang pierced your essence and comfortably made itself at home. But it was really no surprise because James was a beautiful human being, with a heart the size of the moon. James Ingram was, and always will be, beyond compare. Rest In Peace baby brother. You will be in my heart forever.” View the full article
  17. Most celebrities who are under fire, specifically for sex crimes, typically try to avoid maintaining a presence in the public eye. However, R. Kelly is different. According to Billboard, the singer has a new album that's already been recorded and he's looking for a distributor to release it. Earl Gibson III/Getty Images Expect a new album from R. Kelly in the near future, whether you like it or not. The singer's plotting on releasing a new album that's already been completed as soon as possible. Earlier this month, it was revealed that he and Sony's RCA Records parted ways. However, he did manage to score a win in his deal. The singer reportedly reclaimed the ownership of his unreleased music including the new album he plans on releasing once he finds a distributor. Sources said that Kelly's team has been seeking a new distributor for several months, prior to Lifetime airing Surviving R. Kelly. The likelihood of the album being released soon seems unlikely. The announcement of RCA's split from R. Kelly came two weeks after the six-part docu-series aired earlier this month that detailed several allegations of misconduct over the years. Kellz has maintained his innocence but more women have stepped forward with allegations against him. Most recently, his ex-girlfriend came out accusing the singer of throwing her into another wall for allegedly looking at another man. View the full article
  18. "I'm used to being misunderstood," Erykah Badu recently stated. "I don't mind being the problem that may lead to a solution at some point." This remark was made in reference to the criticism the songstress has received for her contributions to difficult conservations held on social media. Badu has already landed herself in another squabble with Twitter users following the upsetting news relating to Empire star, Jussie Smollett. Reports state the actor was hospitalized after a hate crime in which the assailants used a rope and bleach. In what appeared to be a response to the virtual uproar relating to the incident, Erykah came through with her usual message of "unconditional love." She questioned whether the public was being manipulated by the headlines. She asked is every had all the facts straight since "every headline written about me was all out of context and manipulated to trigger YOUR outrage." Of course, this caused some blowback. Some wondered why her statement placed the focus back on her. Others were disappointed that the public's response to the attack was being questioned at all. The singer was quick to explain her statement. "This is not in ref to my brother Jussie. This is across the Board. Period," she warned "Don’t try it, fam." While she claims the comment was not about Smollett, the tweet that followed the one that caused the latest backlash stated, "Love to Jussie." She also engaged with the criticism that directly named the actor's current predicament causing more confusion amongst her following. "I was encouraging the group to wait for the FACTS before making a sound judgment on ANYTHING," she later clarified. "I used my situation as an example. At the same time I received news our bro Jussie was attacked. I had already started this convo when I was alerted. The two were entangled." View the full article
  19. The NBA has fined All Star center Anthony Davis $50,000 as a result of his trade demands going public. A statement from the league office reads: "New Orleans Pelicans forward-center Anthony Davis has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for violating a collectively-bargained rule prohibiting players or their representatives from making public trade demands. The fine is for statements that were made by Davis' agent, Rich Paul, in an intentional effort to undermine the contractual relationship between Davis and the Pelicans." Davis' camp recently informed the Pelicans that he would not be signing a five-year, $240 million supermax extension this summer and has therefore requested a trade. A.D is due to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020, so any team interested in making a trade for him would likely need assurance that he'd sign with them once his current deal is up. According to reports, the Los Angeles Lakers are the only team that Davis is willing to sign an extension with. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Lakers are really pushing to get a deal done for Davis prior to the league's February 7 trade deadline, which would prevent the Boston Celtics from getting involved in the bidding. Due to the "Rose Rule," the Celtics cannot trade for Davis until July 1, because league rules wouldn't allow Irving's and Davis' contracts under the provision on the roster together. 20. The Nike Vapormax took the sneaker world by storm back in 2017 when Travis Scott showed off the original Midnight Blue colorway of the shoe. Some sneakerheads were skeptical of the outsole which was comprised completely of some funky looking air pod units but once people caught wind of how truly comfortable the sneaker was, opinions were changed and the Vapormax quickly became one of the shoes of the year. Since then, the Vapormax has undergone multiple transformations and colorway configurations. Nike has proven in the past how they're not scared in the least bit to go heavy on the colorways and the brand is proving that with the latest iteration of the Nike Vapormax Plus. This new version comes in an all-over yellow upper, with hints of black on the side and on the Nike swoosh. The air pod unit goes the gradient route, as the front is clear and then become darker as it progresses towards the back. There is also a black heel tab on the back, contrasting nicely with the yellow. Image via Sneaker News According to Sneaker News, these latest kicks will be released in the coming weeks, and will cost the typical Vapormax Plus price of $190 USD. Will you be copping? 21. Blac Chyna and Kid Buu's relationship took a turn for the worst last night when the ex-couple reportedly got into a violent fight during their Hawaii trip. Police were called to their hotel room around 5 AM last night but things apparently got worse at 7 AM when Blac accused Kid of cheating on her. Blac reportedly scratched Kid multiple times and he reportedly slammed her head into a wall and choked her. Kid took to Instagram shortly after posting a video that was seemingly aimed at Blac, going off in Spanish saying: "Don't fuck with me. I'm a grown man." Blac's mom, Tokyo Toni, who has been trying to have a relationship with her daughter for some time has responded to the rumours basically shrugging them off. "She probably beat his ass. I mean, what the fuck, okay. She a tough girl, she can beat any bitch ass for sure," she said. "[...] Oh well that's what happens." A few weeks back Tokyo announced that she was getting married and wanted Blac to attend her special day. "So, yes. I am inviting my daughter, Blac Chyna, a.k.a. Angela, to my wedding," she said. "No matter what's going on between us, I'm going to always love my daughter. So, I do want her to know that she's about to get a stepdad [in] August." View the full article
  22. Earlier today PWTorch reported that WWE superstar Dean Ambrose was planning to leave the company in April once his contract expires, due to some creative differences. WWE has since released an official statement confirming that Ambrose's time in WWE is coming to an end. The statement simply reads: "Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) will not be renewing his contract with WWE when it expires in April. We are grateful and appreciative of all that Dean has given to WWE and our fans. We wish him well and hope that one day Dean will return to WWE." While WWE did not reveal any specifics, the PWTorch report outlined the reasons why Ambrose won't be renewing his contract once it expires shortly after Wrestlemania 35 in April. According to the report, Ambrose was offered a new contract and a raise a few weeks ago but his decision to leave WWE isn't about the money. He reportedly spoke with management over the weekend, which included a meeting with the chairman, Vince McMahon. Per PWTorch: "Sources tell PWTorch that Ambrose has been long frustrated with the creative direction of his character and reached a breaking point recently. He’s indicated to WWE management this weekend he’s not interested in negotiating further and made it clear this isn’t about trying to get more money. One of his colleagues on the roster, when asked tonight about Dean’s demeanor lately and if there were any signs of discontent, said “he’s pretty much impossible to read.” He added, though, that Dean “hates hokey sh–” and, since so much of his character has been portrayed as hokey in the last few years, he’s not surprised that would have built up frustration leading to a breaking point." 24. Alexis Skyy and Fetty Wap started the week off in a lot of panic since their one-year-old daughter Alaiya had to undergo emergency brain surgery. Alaiya was born three months premature which resulted in her having an implant put in her brain to assist with draining blood and fluid. The little cutie suffers from hydrocephalus which forms the blood and fluid build up. Alexis was worried about her daughter when she kept throwing up repeatedly, which urged a hospital visit that sparked the surgery. The surgery went well and little Alaiya is said to be recovering just fine. Fetty Wap has followed up with a video he posted to Instagram, thanking his followers, fans, and family for all the well wishes during the difficult time. "I just want to thank all yall for sending your prayers and love [for my] baby girl. I appreciate that shit," he said. "In a year, my whole life changed. I had to make the transition fast and it comes with challenges but nothing compares to living my dream, being able to provide for my kids and family, and taking my people with me," Fetty said in a previous interview. I started off doing music like everybody else, as an outlet and to do something that wasn't gonna have me end up in jail or dead." View the full article
