  1. Very nice & mellow groove He, his brother and cousin were Tony! Toni! Tone! [late 80's , early 90's] They had very decent material.
  2. Giggles-Love Letter [1987] A classic freestyle/urban jam. Most of these artists were one hit wonders, many never making it to a big time label or a decent venue. Marc Anthony, India & George Lamond are the most recognized names to have come from this genre crossing over to pop & salsa. This jam flooded the tri-state area radio airwaves for better than a year. It can be found on many old school/classic freestyle compilations. Todd Terry, renowned house producer,& Zahid Tariq, better known for his work with Coro are on the production side of this one. check out the video http://www.vsocial.com/video/?d=241404 d/l the video [38.6 mbs] http://rapidshare.com/files/157720701/Gigg...tter__Live_.wmv
  3. First time hearing the Ruby version, thanks. Eddie's falsetto and his riffs are what make that song. Ruby goes nowhere near as high as Eddie and she just sings it straight thru, never adding any life to it.
  4. Eddie Holman-Hey there lonely girl [1970] Now a Baptist minister, this ex-Delfonics & ex-Stylistics singer went to #2 on the pop charts with this classic. The song was originally "Hey There Lonely Boy" recorded in 1963 by Ruby and the Romantics, but Mr Holman made it his own and will forever have a place in R&B/Pop ballad history. check out the video http://www.megavideo.com/?v=ELTQZ4XG d/l the video [17.3 mbs] http://rapidshare.com/files/154726241/EDDI...LONELY_GIRL.wmv
  5. Ambrosia-How much I feel [1978] Off their 1978 album, Life Beyond LA, and it went up to #3 on the pop charts. Very good ballad and it still gets a ton of play on the oldies stations, even here in Puerto Rico. check out the video http://media.putfile.com/Ambrosia-How-much-I-feel d/l the video http://rapidshare.com/files/151692900/Ambr...uch_I_feel..wmv
  6. sounds dangerously close to Christopher Cross's "Never be the same"
  7. Robbie Dupree-Steal Away [1980] Off his debut album, this catchy track went up to # 6 on the pop charts. He's not a one hit wonder and this year he put out a new album, Time and Tide, but Rob hasn't been on the charts since 1981. check out the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o3iMKfWEuM d/l the video http://rapidshare.com/files/149937019/Robb..._Steal_Away.wmv
  8. Now here's a goodie, very unique song. Kinda like something Thomas Dolby would do
  9. PM Dawn-Paper Doll [1991] Off their debut album, here's a jam that went up as high as # 28 on the pop charts. This is my favorite of all their songs. Here's an interesting note. They are brothers and their father died while they were children. Their mother remarried to a Mr. George Brown, a founding member of Kool & the Gang. check it out http://www.megavideo.com/?v=AADUETXV d/l the video [26.2 mbs] http://rapidshare.com/files/147323655/PM_D...APER_DOLL_1.wmv
  10. The Commodores-Still [1979] Classic R&B ballad that went all the way to #1, off the album, Midnight Magic. check out the video http://www.megavideo.com/?v=FEJD9EF0 d/l the video http://rapidshare.com/files/145376040/The_...dores_Still.wmv
  11. very good, you beat me to the punch. Love this song.
  12. Tony Etoria, the link on the bottom of the post. He did it in disco fashion. Then in 86, Phil re-did it in R&B style. I prefer Phil's version.
  13. Phil Fearon -I can prove it [1986] Long lost & forgotten R&b jam from this british artist which went up to #8 on the pop charts in 1986.I also posted the original version [disco-1977] from 1 hit wonder, Tony Etoria. check out the video http://media.putfile.com/Phil-Fearon--The-...-I-can-prove-it d/l the video http://rapidshare.com/files/143268236/Phil...t__Show_Tv_.wmv Listen to Tony Etoria's original version. http://media.putfile.com/Tony-Etoria-I-can-prove-it
  14. How long will it be before we are to see someone else of this caliber? Thanks for the video, Dude. Very good example of what he was capable of: range, strength, improv.
  15. Luther Vandross-If only for one night [1985] Here's a classic R&B ballad off his 1985 album, The Night I fell in Love" which went up as high as #19 on the pop charts & #1 on the R&B charts. This single went up only to #59 on the pop charts but I'll put this one up against any male R&B ballad in the last 10 yrs and nothing comes close. Here's a live version from the late, great Luther. check out the video http://www.megavideo.com/?v=2FX4G1L3 d/l the video [33 mbs] http://rapidshare.com/files/141221826/Luth...on_Show_1-2.rar
  16. Journey-Chain Reaction [1983] This is off their six times platinum album, Frontiers. This is a pretty decent rock song on a loaded album. This one didn't even make the charts but still worth a listen. Catchy chorus. check out the video http://www.megavideo.com/?v=P1TYQBLY d/l the video http://rapidshare.com/files/139781550/Jour...in_Reaction.mpg
  17. Hey, is this the original or a remake? Either way, it's a very decent track.
  18. Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force-Everything will be fine [1987] This group is one of the original freestyle/dance/club groups. This song is off the "Spanish Fly " album, which went platinum thanks to two #1 hits. This song didn't make the Billboard 100 but it went as high as #9 on the R&B charts & #22 on the dance charts. This group was assembled & produced by another group called Full Force whose claim to fame was making hits for other people except for themselves. check out the video d/l the video [25.9 mbs] http://rapidshare.com/files/138640586/LL_CJ_ETWBF.rar
  19. Thank God for 80's & light fm stations. I can barely handle today's garbage
  20. Benny Mardones-Into the night [1980] Off his debut album, Never Run, Never Hide, here's one hell of a classic track. It's the only track to make it into the top 20 twice, once in 1980 & again in 1989 after a segment of "Where are they now" and the song was added to that playlist. It became as popular as the 1st time and made it back to the top 20. This is one of my favorite karaoke songs but I admit I can't hit that high note at the end. There are few that can. check out the video http://media.putfile.com/Benny-Mardones-Into-the-night d/l the track http://rapidshare.com/files/137005327/BENN...o_The_Night.mpg
  21. Ambrosia-Biggest part of me Off their "One Eighty" album in 1980, which was nominated for 3 Grammys, here's an all-time classic that went to #3 on the pop charts and a song I truly still enjoy every time it comes on the radio. check out the video http://media.putfile.com/Ambrosia-The-Biggest-part-of-me d/l the video http://rapidshare.com/files/135709787/_MV_..._Part_Of_Me.mpg
  22. S'Express-Theme from S'Express Off the debut album, "Original Soundtrack" of British dance act, S'Express, here's a dance/club track that went to #1 in the UK and to #1 on the US dance tracks in 1988. First time I heard this track was on a show called Dance Party U.S.A. Anyone else remember that show? check out the video http://media.putfile.com/SExpress-Theme-from-SExpress SExpress-Theme-from-SExpress - Hosted by Putfile.com d/l the video http://rapidshare.com/files/133228825/S-Ex..._S-Express..wmv
  23. Patti Labelle-Yo Mister This off her certified gold 1989 album, "Be Yourself". This is probably my favorite of all the tracks that Prince has produced for other people and it went to #6 on the R&B charts. I enjoy this track because Patti was able to use the complete range of her very powerful vocals & the subject in the song was just as strong as the track itself. check out the video http://media.putfile.com/Patti-Labelle-Yo-Mister Patti-Labelle-Yo-Mister - Hosted by Putfile.com d/l the video [28 mbs] http://rapidshare.com/files/129858818/Patt...-_Yo_Mister.wmv
  24. Off her 10th album and 6th #1 album, Discipline, here's a very good and catchy dance track. At 40+, she's still a sexy dancing machine as you'll see in the video. I was surprised to see that Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis had nothing to do with this album as they've always been part of her musical direction. Maybe her hubby, Jermaine Dupri, had something to say about that. check out the video http://media.putfile.com/Janet-Jackson-Rock-with-you Janet-Jackson-Rock-with-you - Hosted by Putfile.com d/l the video http://rapidshare.com/files/127522034/JJ_RWU.rar
