Hi there, I joined this forum just to respond to this message. I'm a friend of John Vanderslice, and this is one of my favorite songs of his and I had to find the original poem. He often modifies poetry for his lyrics, I'm surprised he did this one straight up! I wrote because I think he read your board, there is a new version of this song on "Suddenly It All Went Dark"--his live studio acoustic remake of the entire album. The song is the most significantly different song on the album, and it is much slower, softer, and in a much lower/different key. I don't think he'd mind if I sent you a copy of it, I can be reached at [email protected]. I'm sure he'd see that as free promotion! Clay
