1. By Rob Markman Kanye West recently gave Wiz Khalifa props for getting engaged to his ex-girlfriend, Amber Rose, on the track "Way Too Cold," and although the Pittsburgh rapper recently told MTV News that it surprised him, during Wednesday's episode of "RapFix Live" maintained there it all love and positivity in his corner. The Pittsburgh MC stopped by "RapFix Live" on Wednesday, and we premiered an exclusive clip from his appearance on "Hip Hop POV,", which will air on MTV tonight at midnight. In the clip, Wiz reacts to Kanye's "Way Too Cold" lyric: "The whole industry wanna f--- ya old chick/ Only n---a I got respect for is Wiz." "I took it as he knows I'm a good guy," Wiz told the "POV" panel. "He really was into her, so the fact that we're two great people that are treating each other well, he's coming down and saying, 'Hey, hats off to you.' That's how I see it." Khalifa told "RapFix Live" host Sway Calloway he doesn't mind answering the Kanye question. "It doesn't really bother me because it's something that people are gonna always be interested in," he said. "It's something that if I try to fight it then somebody is gonna do it to try to annoy me and then what am I gonna do then? So I just accept it for what it is and keep it pushing man. I got a whole positive campaign and it's all love." Does that mean that we can expect to hear a Wiz and Kanye collabo? Sway hit the "Black and Yellow" MC with a hypothetical scenario: If Kanye offered up a free beat, would Wiz use it? "I dunno," he answered. "If I sent him a verse, do you think he would like it and want to use it for his album?" Wiz then asked Sway. Hypothetical situations aside, Wiz didn't completely shut the door on working with 'Ye, if the circumstances were right. For him, it's all about the art. "That's what it's all about though, it's about the culture and the creativity factor," he said. 2. During the last decade the issue of so-calling ‘camming’ – taking a video recording device into a theater and filming the screen – grew out to the point where almost every major movie was online before its official release. Groups like maVen turned the act into an art form, turning out the latest movies in record time and with unprecedented quality. In more recent times, however, the trend has been showing signs of reversal. These days cammed movies only make up less than 5% of the top 100 most downloaded movies and at this week’s CinemaCon 2012 convention, MPAA chief Chris Dodd said that instances of camcorder recordings had dropped by some 50% since 2007. “Almost all of this is due to your vigilance,” he told the NATO audience. In several speeches since he took on the role of MPAA chief, Dodd has stressed that the absolute best way to watch movies is “in theaters, in the dark, on the big screen,” and millions of movie-goers agree with him. Unfortunately some of NATO’s MPAA-mandated approaches to combating camcorder piracy have sullied that experience. Bag searches, pat downs, metal detectors, cell-phone confiscations, and even night vision goggles, have turned movie screenings (particularly early ones) into an experience more akin to that of a post 9/11 airport check-in than a relaxing evening out. But according to a presentation that took place yesterday at CinemaCon, all this has the potential to become a thing of the past. PirateEye was developed with funding from Motion Picture Laboratories, Inc. (MovieLabs), a non-profit research organization funded by the major Hollywood studios. In development since 2006 and in new hands since 2010, $5m is said to have been invested in the technology to date. The system involves the installation of cameras in theaters that scan the audience and have the ability to detect the lenses of camcorders and cellphones. PirateEye also records what it sees and retains “forensic quality” evidence for prosecutions. While perhaps the natural reaction is to be concerned about yet more invasions of privacy in the name of protecting Hollywood, the people behind the technology say it is no more intrusive than other CCTV systems people encounter on a daily basis. They even say it could lead people to feel more comfortable. “The purpose of PirateEye is to not have another person look at you suspiciously if you haven’t done anything wrong,” said Brian Dunn, chief executive officer of PirateEye. “If the cameras don’t catch a person trying to tape a film illegally, the images are destroyed.” But it seems that PirateEye has more uses than simply cracking down on movie piracy. Earlier this week CinemaCon managing director Mitch Neuhauser revealed that someone had been detected at the convention not for partaking in movie piracy per se, but for recording Paramount’s presentation to exhibitors. That individual was apparently arrested and taken away by the police. Finally, in his speech to the convention, Chris Dodd praised NATO for scheduling sessions on how to engage movier-goers through social networking, but interestingly one of the stated aims of the PirateEye system is to cut down on ways film fans might choose to promote their experiences with each other. In addition to curbing full-film professional piracy, their technology also aims to deter “social piracy” – the casual recording, storage, sharing of movie clips online. According to its creators, thus far the system has already resulted in more than ten arrests and prosecutions in the U.S. However, thanks to aggressive US legislation, the uncompromising attitudes of theater staff, and the lack of discretion they are encouraged to show to anyone recording any part of a movie, Pirate Eye will suck in professional pirates and innocents alike. 14. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana have long promised to release the collaboration album Can't Feel My Face, but a few things (including Wayne's 2010 stint in jail) have caused endless delays. According to Wayne however, the failed collaboration with Juelz has resulted in his forthcoming album I Am Not A Human Being II. "I actually got at Elz when I got out and told him, 'Man, I think it's time we really capitalize on that,' " Wayne recalled to Amanda Seales of MTV's"Hip Hop POV" in an outtake from last week's episode. It's more than six years in the making, but for a time, I Can't Feel My Facewas one of rap's most-anticipated projects. Now that Weezy has put his legal troubles behind him, it's Santana who's facing drama after his New Jersey recording studio was raided in January 2011. "He can't work how he wants to work because they shut down his studio," Wayne explained. "I sent him some music and he didn't send them back in the time-fashion that I work." Never one to remain idle, Tunechi took the songs that he had set aside for the joint album and repurposed them for his upcoming I Am Not a Human Being II solo LP. "I started putting extra verses on those songs and I've moved on," he confirmed. "Now what probably would've been I Can't Feel My Face, has now turned into I Am Not a Human Being." During a June 2011 interview on "RapFix Live," Juelz gave his own reasoning for the delay. "It wasn't no one reason it didn't happen. Me and Wayne always was on the same page, musically, as far as friendship-wise," he said. "I'm just happy we didn't let that get in the way of us being cool, being able to do things in the future; we ain't let it get to us." During a conversation about his newest movie "The Fourth Dimension" (we'll have much more on that for you tomorrow), Kilmer told MTV News that while he's "not yet" heard word from anyone asking him to sign on for "Top Gun 2," he's more than willing to get back into the cockpit. "Sure, it would be fun," he told MTV. "I'd have to get a haircut, but anything for the role!" "It's not like Jerry Bruckheimer isn't the most successful producer on Earth," he reasoned further with a laugh. "I was going around bragging. I did a little part just to hang out with [director Tony Scott] and Denzel Washington, on this movie 'Deja Vu.' I'm going around saying, 'Jerry's probably made $5 billion dollars,' I was guessing. And one interviewer said, 'You haven't read the [press notes]?' He just turned the page and there's Jerry's bio: $50 billion dollars, he's grossed. As soon as I read that, wow. He's got thirty or forty or fifty awesome secrets about how to make a big blockbuster." Kilmer's clearly a fan of the guys on the "Top Gun" team, though you might not believe that depending on rumors you've read online. "Somehow on Wikipedia, it got said - fairly recently, which proves how absurd it is - that Tom Cruise and I got in a fight [on the set]," he remembered, amused. "I have to remind people that that's what happened in the movie, but it didn't happen in real life. I think there would have been a story if we were actually physically fighting on the set, but... it didn't actually happen." Do you want Kilmer to return for another "Top Gun" movie? 22. As a kid, did you ever dream of escaping your hometown with a friend in search of an adventure? Well, if you never got to experience the thrill first hand, it's exactly what two twelve year olds do in "Moonrise Kingdom." The Wes Anderson film takes place in the summer of 1965 and follows Suzy and Sam who flee from their home in New England to escape into the wilderness. The Sheriff rounds up a search party to hunt them down just as a storm approaches, and the once peaceful town is shaken up beyond anyone in the community's control. The ensemble cast includes Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman. As we await the release of the film in May, we have six new clips to tide you over! New Penzance Penzance is a peaceful, quaint island off the coast of New England. It's the home Suzy and Sam run away from. In this quirky scene, the narrator describes the different features of the island and ends with a foreshadowing of the impending storm saying, "the ferocious and well-documented storm...will strike from the East on the 5th of September—in three days time." Were You Followed? We're introduced to Suzy and Sam in this clip as they meet in a vacant prairie ready to begin their adventure. Suzy brings along her cat and Sam presents her with flowers. He pulls out his map and tells her his plan of attack. Since Suzy trusts him, she accepts his strategy (and some beef jerky) and they're on their way. Loaded Question This comical clip sets up Suzy's hair-brained parents, The Bishops. Her mother calls her down to dinner using a megaphone. Upon learning from Suzy's brother that she took his record player and will return it in ten days or less, Mrs. Bishop again uses the megaphone to call to her husband (Murray). When he answers that he's upstairs, she leans out of the first floor window, looks up and proceeds with their conversation. "Does it concern you that your daughter has just run away from home?" she sternly asks. "That's a loaded question," he replies. With the search party that follows, we assume he really means "yes, dear." I'm Deputizing The Little Guy In this scene we see Captain Sharp (Willis) rounding up the troops to help in the search for Suzy and Sam. As one of the scouts spots a clue that confirms they're on the right trail, the Captain recruits "the little guy, the skinny one and the boy with the patch on his eye" to continue on with him until help arrives. The scene sets up Sharp's control and his no-nonsense approach to finding the children. Juvenile Refuge But if we thought Captain Sharp was in control, Tilda Swinton proves us wrong when she takes control in this clip playing Social Services. As she reprimands him and Scout Master Ward (Norton) for allowing the boy to escape, she says, "You two are the most appallingly incompetent custodial guardians Social Services has ever had the misfortune to encounter in a twenty-seven year career." Ouch. Sharp comes back saying that Juvenile Refuge is not the place for Sam, but Social Services finishes the argument with, "Find the boy and deliver him to Social Services. Nothing else is in your power." The Most Important Decision In Your Lives Cousin Ben (Schwartzman) helps Suzy and Sam on their adventure and in this scene we see the Falcon Scout offer to marry the twelve year olds. Well, he offers to perform the ritual since a marriage between two children will not hold up in any type of court. As he asks them if they love each other and are ready for the commitment, he expects replies of "no" and continues to get "yes." While he's willing to help the lovebirds, we learn his character is a good leader by looking out for their well-being. 23. Pittsburgh is having a party on Wednesday's episode of "RapFix Live." Mac Miller isn't the only PA rapper making his return to the red couch tomorrow, as Wiz Khalifa will also join Sway Calloway to talk about his latest projects. It's perfect timing too. On Monday, Khalifa released "Work Hard, Play Hard," the first single from his sophomore album O.N.I.F.C. (Only N---a in First Class). The catchy track, which was crafted by Stargate and Benny Blanco, finds Young Khalifa flaunting his success in the face of less fortunate haters. Wiz is coming off the heels of his critically acclaimed Taylor Allderdice mixtape. He's prepping O.N.I.F.C. for an August 28 release, and if that wasn't enough, Mr. Khalifa and fiancée Amber Rose are planning a wedding. (It was during a March 2011 episode of "RapFix Live" where the lovebirds gave their first interview.) The Taylor Gang captain is also about to hit the road with Mac Miller, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q and Chevy Woods on the Under the Influence of Music tour, so there is plenty to talk about. "It means everything, Mac's my little homey. It's good for his fans; it's good for everybody who've been wanting to see us do what we do together," Wiz told MTV News about the tour, which kicks off July 26 in Cincinnati, Ohio. "Chevy's my guy. I grew up with him so I know he's gonna bring a lot of crazy energy. Kendrick and Schoolboy got a bunch of fans on their own and people that they're gonna entertain as well, so I think it's just gonna bring a lot of different worlds together as well as create some new energy that hasn't been done before." That's not all "RapFix Live" has to offer, as California spitter Casey Veggies will also be coming through. Trust us, you don't want to miss this! Catch Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller and Casey Veggies on "RapFix Live" Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com, and be sure to join the Twitter conversation using the hashtag #RapFixLive. In 1989, at the height of his career, Patrick Swayze made an action film called "Road House" and changed the bouncer movie forever. A simple premise. Swayze is Dalton, the world's greatest bouncer, who goes from bar to bar, cleaning up the joint, so that nice people can have fun. "Shut up, you've already convinced me," you say. I know I have, but the beauty of "Road House" goes so much deeper than that. Let's start with the Swayze himself. Most appreciations of "Road House" fall prey to the all-too-easy cynical approach, and Patrick Swayze usually gets roped into that conversation too often. When I say that Swayze embodied the all-American movie star during his "Dirty Dancing"-"Road House"-"Point Break" era, I do so without a hint of irony. It's easy to poke fun at his hair, "She's Like the Wind" or his clothes, but during the late 80s and early 90s Swayze was the kind of movie star that we don't see very often anymore. Whatever character, be it a dancer or a spiritual surfer/bank robber or the world's greatest bouncer, Swayze went for broke, sold it and clearly had fun every step of the way. But that isn't to say that "Road House" isn't utterly ridiculous, because it is. At one point, a local crime boss orders a monster truck to drive through a car dealership that hasn't paid up. A stuffed polar bear falls on top of a morbidly obese henchman named Tinker. "Pain don't hurt," for crying out loud! Where modern American action films only have a tough guy and occasional sarcasm, "Road House" had fun. Add to all of that a supporting cast beyond compare. The late, great Ben Garraza, a staple of Cassavates independent film scene in the 70s, looks like he's enjoying himself as the dastardly Brad Wesley more than I ever will in my lifetime. I'm pretty sure Sam Elliott showed up on set one day, and they let him be in the movie without telling him. Blind guitarist Jeff Healey slays throughout the film as the bandleader at the Double Deuce. As easy as it is to mock, "Road House" has so much color that it makes the modern American action flick look completely bland by comparison, so next time you're feeling under the weather, take a trip to Jasper, Missouri to find out what I'm talking about. And always remember to be nice. Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. These are some of ours.
