  1. It saddens me to read this article, but the content doesn't surprise me in the least. I had spent alot of years in music administration, and definitely found that the music industry is still very much a good ole'boys network. I had spent a many years working on diversity programs that would encourage women and minorities to move up within the ranks. We did find that one inhibiting factor for women is the time it would take away from their families and relationships, and for most of those women, it was too much of a sacrifice. When I first took office, I was one of two women who held the office of president in the US and Canada - out of an AFM membership of over 200,000 at the time. I vividly remember attending professional conferences, and being the only woman in the room. Many times, my remarks were not taken seriously. It took a couple of years, but eventually I proved that I knew what I was doing, and had become accepted and respected within the "boys club". Women most often do provide a different and interesting perspective, and they should be making their presence known in their industry. I also found the comment about the lack of women in rock to be quite interesting. If you look back in music history, you'll find that there was a time when radio stations refused to play 2 recordings back to back of women artists, believing it would jeopardize their ratings. You'll also realize that women were never show headliners until the late 1970's and early 80's and that barrier was overcome by female country artists. The promoters felt "they wouldn't sell tickets". Women in rock had relatively little presence until the mid 80's and early 90's, and that barrier was being broken by artists such as Sinead O'Connor. Knowing the industry fairly well, you won't see many women in A&R divisions, or any other part of the industry until they dedicate their time and ability by becoming more involved in their work!
  2. thanks Dude! I just got an entirely new system and it screams! Loving it!
  3. thanks guys! I appreciate your help. I'll check this out...didn't expect to have problems since this was just reformatted, but I do know I'm having problems with the processor and motherboard right now. Looks like I'll be having a new system built in the near future. Again...thanks for your help!
  4. Welll.....I'm a total idiot when it comes to computers.. Internet Explorer??? I just click on it and go! LOL
  5. Is it just me...or is anyone else having trouble logging in? I usually have to submit my user name and password at least three times before BK recognizes it.
  6. :D You're probably right Shawn. I've heard it said the official state sport of West Virginia is the broad jump!!! No wonder RBD misses Pocahontas County!!!!!
  7. Hmmm....sounds like more interbreeding has occurred!
  8. The old hippie really is stoned if he thinks the movie is about Pittsburgh Steelworkers in Viet Nam!!!
  9. Hey all! Today is the 29th Anniversary of Joe's 21st Birthday! Can we swamp him with good wishes??? HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU OLD HOUND DOG!!! Lots of Love Dearest! Pat
  10. You might want to look into Sibelius...a composer friend of mine uses its and loves it.
  11. I think this is one of the saddest articles I've read. Luciano Pavarotti has probably the finest voice in the world...and to not be able to bear listening to himself...how sad. I am holding a ticket for one of his concerts, but have a feeling he won't be performing again. It's a shame he sees his illness as punishment for a good life and happiness. I pray that God heals him!
  12. Joe is going to kill me for that!!! LOL What do you mean "Poor Joe"....there's a reason why I'm still smiling! You should see the silly grin he walks around with....oh...that could be the "old stoner look" on his face too! ;)
  13. Well Shawn, Had Joe 33 years ago and have him again now....Guess I could share him with you now...only because I had him when he was REALLY good! LOL Just teasing! Joe's a wonderful guy and it's amazing how it seems like all those years never really passed us by. As for the topic of discussion...found Joe on Reunion.com. Sometimes old friends come back into our lives when we least expect it....so maybe this is a good place to meet people! I know I've been very happy these past few months! Pat
  14. You know I was teasing...I know without a doubt, you'd walk here if you could! We waited for alot of years dear...and it's been worth the wait!
  15. Oh really??? Maybe you should start walking NOW! If you think it's cold where you're working now....you ain't seen nothin' yet!!! :P
  16. So does Rainbowdemon...except everynight from one person! ;) Time for his daily shot of B12!!!
  17. For those who enjoy classical music, "Reflections" is a wonderful CD compilation performed by Irish violinist, Gregory Harrington. I was amazed at his sound, more voice-like than you usually hear! The CD has a nice variety of classical and contemporary music, including the Theme from Schindler's List by John Williams. I'll have a chance to hear Mr. Harrington next month in concert with Ronan Tynan, formerly of the Irish Tenors. Will let you know how it goes!
  18. One of the things I like best about this site...everyone is open minded and can discuss various points of view. I too worked for many years in the Industry....was very active with the American Federation of Musicians, owned American Entertainment Consultants, and was hired as a consultant by the Recording Industries Music Performance Trust Funds. Loved my work...but am now out of it for the time being! Nice chatting with someone else in the Industry!!!
  19. Well, I admit I don't totally agree with how RIAA is handling the matter, but.... You know, out of respect for Joe, I'm going to keep my opinion to myself!!!! I have a few close friends who are recording artists, and I'm afraid I'm not the most impartial person. I will agree with you on one point - RIAA has to get with the program or lose!!
  20. Oh this was hysterical! This kid is bright enough to be attending Columbia, but stupid enough to admit online that he "knew" what he was doing was illegal....Now he wants people to bail him out with the pitiful story lamenting college tuition. Sounds to me like this kid needs to accept the consequences of his actions and accept responsibility for his choices!!! One possible solution to raising the money for the fine...get a JOB!!!
  21. Yorgos....YES! Arriving in Athens at Noon tomorrow!!!!
  22. Just want you to know....I've been a professional musician for over 30 years (groan) and I think this is the greatest site! You're all doing a phenomenal job! Not only is this site interesting and up to date, it's fun! Keep up the great work and know how much it is appreciated by members!
