  1. According to the right wing nuts, Jesus would be 4 wheeling across the holyland in a SUV of biblical proportions. From what I remember from Sunday School, Jesus walked just about everywhere. The Doctor :scratchin:
  2. Leave it to conservatives to create the "Pants Police" The Doctor :scratchin:
  3. I would be, at the least, mildly surprised if anything happened to the teacher. I've been on the School Board of the Crosby/Ironton school district (ISD #182) in Minnesota since 1998. One thing I have learned is that it is almost impossible to fire a teacher. You can bet that the teachers union will "circle the wagons" and defend this teacher to the death. The Doctor :scratchin:
  4. Manfred Mann from South Africa, I think.. The Doctor :scratchin:
  5. Where's Umma??? She has eyes that could melt down a reactor!!!! The Doctor :scratchin:
  6. Currently I'm reading Analog...Sci-Fi/fact magazine. I'll be starting Chapter House Dune next. The Doctor :scratchin:
  7. Dude...thanks for the link that provided the story. This one was lost to the media. Not surpised that it happened in Florida, I suppose. It is Bush country. None of them have ever gone hungry. The Doctor :scratchin:
  8. Dude...your history is esentially correct. The Arab countries surrounding Israel did't give a damn about the Palestinians prior to the creation of Israel and after starting (and losing) 5 wars against Israel, they lack the will to wage war with a country that only wants to be left alone. So they do it the cowards way through acts of terrorism. And since Israel has a significant nuclear arsenal, Damascus, Cairo, Tehran, etc don't want to end up in a mushroom cloud. Lets all remember that the world, including America and the middleastern countries did nothing to prevent or stop the genocide of the Jews. I often view much of the middle eastern countries as immature with their endless demands on the world, non-stop "jihads, fatwahs, calls for holy wars, etc" at the slightest perceived offense. Ok...I'm done now...climbing off my soapbox... The Doctor :scratchin:
  9. I was surprized but pleased to see Eric Johnson in the list. He's one of the best and I would have rank him higher. The Doctor :scratchin:
  10. Umma...you can be such a nag! Actually the 10% figure can be considered fairly accurate. Typical audience response for listeners to a given radio contest (I've been in radio about 13 years now) runs from 5 to 10% of the total audience at the time and it's usually the same ones participating. Now, as for you, Umma...see what your post about not enough postings has caused? I should take your loofa away!!!!! The Doctor :scratchin:
  11. Welcome DM. However, beware...some of us bite so I hope your shots are updated. The Doctor :scratchin:
  12. I claim no special expertise when it comes to pro basketball but I won't let that stop me! Since I'm from Minnesota I am biased. The Timberwolves has it's best team ever in it's 15 year history and ended the regular season as the #1 seed in the Western Conference...a 1st for the Wolves. They have never survived the 1st round in the playoffs but that is very unlikely to be the case this time around. Denver is good, but not in Minnesota's league. They've won only 1 game in the last 9 meetings against the Wolves, so the momentum is the Wolves favor. Look for them to easily eliminate Denver and move on to the 2nd round. Of course, I could be wrong... Go Wolves!!!!! The Doctor :scratchin:
  13. The website for Starcastle is www.starcastlemusic.com Also, I want to correct my ealier post. Starcaslte is from Illinois, USA. They have a new cd and the clips I heard from sound good. They can be sampled at the website. The Doctor :scratchin:

    Starcastle

Yes has always been a favorite of mine. Their vocals and syncopation set themselves apart from other progressive bands. Have any of you heard of Starcastle? From Canada. Had a string of albums in the 70's with some brief radio play. I saw them with Boston in the late 70's and I thought they sounded very much like Yes...almost a rip-off. The Doctor :scratchin:
  15. John and his late brother Tom Fogarty...CCR Cornilius Brothers with Sister Rose... The Corrs The Cowsills The Osmonds The Hatfields & the McCoys...oops...the interbred and killed each other :scratchin:
  16. Umma sheepish???? Me thinks not! Have you seen her eyes? Are you aware of her powers? She could talk a fish out of water and convince it that it would be better off. You diss her at your own peril!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
  17. I haven't been a member of this site very long, but when I stumbled upon this category I could not hold back. If I may... The Hollies were NOT 1 hit wonders...Yes Long Cool woman In A Black Dress was huge but lets not forget He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother ( covered by Neil Diamond) or The Air That I Breathe...need I say more? Starland Vocal Band was a sappy, syrupy one hit wonder band that (thankfully) had a short lived TV show that had a then unknown David Letterman as one of "extras" Anyone remember Tobacco Road by the Nashville Teens? Signs by The 5 Man Electrical Band (From Canada) Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida...Iron Butterfly Gloria...Shadows Of Knight (Them with Van Morrison did it 1st) Ooh Child...5 Stairsteps One Tin Soldier (Billy Jack movie theme)...Coven Rock n Roll Part 2...Gary Glitter Turn Up The Radio...Autograph Cinamon...Derek (although he had an earlier hit-Mr Bass Man under the name of Johnny Cymbal...a 2 hit/one hit wonder?) The Israelites...Dekker Backfield In Motion...Mel & Tim In the Year 2525...Zager & Evans...one hit wonder from Lincoln Nebraska Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye...Steam They're Coming to Take Me Away...Napoleon the XIV I could go on and on...the criteria to be a one hit wonder is rather fluid. If it's determined by Billboard's Pop Top 40, then the paremeters are limited. If you include things like sales, commercials, TV, movies AND longevity then the award should go to Stormin' Norman Greenbaums "Spirit In The Sky". He's alive and somewhat well in California. Doesn't do much music anymore and he certainly isn't performing. These days he raises goats and is into organic gardening. Ok...I'm done now. Humble apologies as I get down off my soap box. Thanx! :scratchin:
  18. Kooperman...you make a good point about Gerry/Pacemakers. thanx! :scratchin:
  19. King Crimson...In The Court Of The Crimson King (Robert Fripp!!!) The Doctor :scratchin:
  20. Animals was, is and always will be my favorite Floyd effort. While the first trip I took on acid was to DSOTM, but it was a LSD "vacation with Animals that Floyd took me around the known universe with me having to leave my living room chair. As for so-called Floyd friendly radio stations, the vast majority of them cater to the relatively short attention span of the listener. It is rare, indeed, that you'll ever hear a cut from Animals on commercial radio. Having been in radio nearly 15 years, I only once played a track from Animals (Dogs). While the listeners were appreciative, management almost fired me. Such is life I suppose. The Doctor :scratchin:
  21. How about Johnny Kaye of Steppenwolf? The Doctor :scratchin:
  22. Umma! You're analysis regarding RW is quite good! I saw him for his "In The Flesh" tour 3 years ago. Very good show. Stripped down and basic which only added to the music. My only complaint (that may not be the right word) is that Roger spends a lot of time exploring the dark side of humanity. You can see it with Floyd and his solo efforts. However, one glaring example was the final song he performed at the concert was "One Small Candle" (I'm 100% sure if that's the correct title) was a sign of hope. Never the less...Roger remains, in my mind, the finest lyricsist (sp) ever. The Doctor :scratchin:
  23. CC Reviseted (sp?) is going to be at Grand Casino Mille Lacs in Minnesota next week. I'll be at the show mostly out of curiosity than anything else. CCR claims Stu Cook & Doug "Cosmo" Clifford as original members of the band...and they are. Without John, though, I suspect something will be hugely missing. A few years ago VH1 did an hour special about CCR & John Fogarty with only Jonh being interviewed. He is still carry an enormous grudge about what happened to him back in the 70's. When CCR was induscted into the R & R Hall Of Fame, he refused to perform with the other surviving members. During the VH1 show, he reffered to the "new" CCR as a horrible lounge act. I wonder if John will ever "get over it" and make peace. The Doctor :scratchin:
  24. Even today Sticky Fingers is my favorite by the ugliest band in the known universe. The album cover was sooooooooooooooo unique....the zipper. At the time I bought the album (vinyl...remember vinyl?) my girlfriend spent more time unzipping that than me. The Doctor :scratchin:
  25. Kooperman is correct that 3DN were "dissed" because the almost never wrote their own material. The Dogs, however, never hid that fact and actually bragged about it. During my interview with them 1 1/2 years ago, I asked Danny Hutton about that and his reply was to the effect that if they had sold over 50 million records, who wrote the songs became irrelevant and probably helped pay the rent for numerous songwriters back in the late 60's/70's.
