  1. Here's my unscientific study of resource use. Winamp5 is pretty low. WMP9 isn't brutal either. Fancy skins and dsp plugins can easily double cpu and memory usage.
  2. BrainStorm features soft melodic rock with some nice hooks. My tastes are probably alot wimpier than yours but they sound fine to me. http://www.balticsww.com/brainstorm.htm
  3. Howard's father looks up to politicians so Howard does anything he can to get close to politicians to impress him...love me daddy. ;) If any Republicans offer to come on Howard's show I'm afraid he'll support them, even though a vote for them just makes the far right even more powerful. I'm a fan of the show but our hero has issues and he's desperate for approval from his father.
  4. These aren't name that I recognize but they must work. There are lots of different newsreaders btw. http://www.newsreaders.com/mac/clients.html
  5. Alot more things are posted in newsgroups than on BT. I remember when Neil Young was touring heavily 3 or 4 months ago, his concerts were being posted almost daily in the bootleg group. Also, newsgroups=leeching so no threatening letters from your isp whereas BitTorrent=taking a risk. There's no need for a tutorial. There's 1 here http://www.slyck.com/ng.php Basically you need your isp to have good group support or there's no use trying. -Just put the address they use into the reader you choose -Get a list of all the groups they have -Choose the ones you want to subscribe to by scrolling or using keywords in the search box -Get a list of headers from the subscribed groups -Either scroll the list or use a filter (search) box- all readers have them -Download the headers to your heart's content, they're the files you want Now there are sites with nbz files on them. Just small text files that request the movies and songs etc directly from the server so you don't even have to download all the headers. Just like torrents or ed2k or sig2dat. Great for ppl on slow connections or limited monthly bandwidth. Typical newsreader- subscribed groups are on the left- headers from the bootleg group were updated on the right- there's the search box and I've highlighted a concert- then you just download-you can use the icons on the top or the right click menu or shortcuts-most readers are similar
  6. Now there are things called nzb files that are like hotlinks and let you download directly from the server without even needing to get the headers. Here's a site that's crude but you get the idea. http://alt.binaries.nl/viewgroup/?group=al....mp3.rap-hiphop
  7. Massive amounts get posted every day. Here's an example. http://www.newzbin.com/browse/cat/p/music/
  8. Not really well remembered but they sound pretty good with alot of melodic tunes if you like hooks. "Slade was certainly our greatest influence; not only in the crafting of rock songs but also as performers. Before Slade, no one really knew shit about how to make an audience riot. We really got off on that. There would probably never have been us without them." - Gene Simmons (Kiss) "I spent most of the early 70s listening to Slade Alive thinking to myself, "Wow - this is what I want to do. I want to make that kind of intensity for myself." A couple of years later I found myself at CBGB's doing my best Noddy Holder." - Joey Ramone (TheRamones) " When Slade broke in 1972, I began to get really nervous. Here I am killing myself to write the next incredible riff (and then I see) these four blokes pounding out four chords over and over and loving every minute of it. I bought all of their albums and thought maybe I wanted to join the band. (Bands like) Slade really inspired me to get back to my root of inspiration: heavy, intelligent but fun rock and roll." - Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple) "Slade never compromised. We always had the feeling that they were on our side. I don't know but I think we were right." - Steve Jones (The Sex Pistols) "If you notice, around 1972 I started doing much different music. I couldn't do the heavy rock thing anymore. Noddy Holder was around kicking every singer in the ass. I never wanted to be a pop singer. Christ, how I hated Noddy!" - Tom Jones "Slade was the coolest band in England. They were the kind of guys that would push your car out of a ditch." - Alice Cooper "Slade was never pretentious. It was just music to them. Pop, rock, soul....it was all the same to Slade. They wrote great songs. And, besides, I'd like to raid their wardrobe." - Noel Gallagher (Oasis) "The whole punk rock thing really happened because of bands such as Slade and the like; rock bands that wouldn't back off." - Paul Weller (The Jam/The Style Council) "Absolutely. Slade! A band that would never bend over." - Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) "Whatever happened to bands that rocked liked Slade? Y'know, that no-bullshit, fuck you, in your face, we're bad-as-hell-and-we-know-it kind of band?" - David Coverdale (Whitesnake) "The truth is, for this (New Musical Express) compilation (album) of cover songs, I wanted to record my version of Slade's How Does It Feel more than anything. Yet, Oasis had already chosen Cum On Feel The Noize. NME feels that too much Slade is not a good thing. Really? I had to settle for the divine Mr. David Bowie. I did my best with second best! ha!" - Roland Orzabal (Tears For Fears) "I judge a good rock and roll 'encyclopedia' by whether or not Slade is included." - Robert Christau (enlightened and acclaimed music critic for ROLLING STONE & THE VILLAGE VOICE) http://members.aol.com/brianr7651/Slade/indexs.html
  9. I'm amazed you noticed! I figured the periodic return of vipp (unrelated to her ACTUAL period) would overshadow my joining. ;)
  10. This P2P is for legal audio and video concerts. "Remember the days when you had to "luckily meet" a taper or "friend of a taper" at a show or you had a friend who knew a friend who knew someone who lived next to someone that knew a friend who may know a taper? In those days, "that" was the only way to find your favorite live Jamband music. In those days, multi-generational cassette recordings and half-set shows were common. That was then... and this is Now! The Furthur Network changes everything about sharing and trading by allowing you, me and everyone else to share their tunes with each other. It is peer-to-peer, so what you share is available to everyone else on the Network. Download music 24/7/365." http://www.furthurnet.com/
  11. It was a pretty good movie but the soundtrack was a standout. Haunting is a good word to describe some of the music during the film. http://www.cinemusic.net/reviews/2003/veronica_guerin.html
