Vandal 'Captain Magic'

Captain-Magic-Ad-1.jpg

For anyone that's been living under a stone, our boy Vandal is back. 'Captain Magic' his fourth single on Lot 49 is now available through all good digital portals. Famed for his no nonsense approach to the beats and breaks, he continues to impress by showing how diverse the breakbeat scene can be by delivering two versions - the Filth and Clean mixes, proving that he really is a cut above the rest.

Vandal has also been a magnet for world class "up and coming" remixers (Audiofly, Dexter, Audiojack) and he continues down that path on this package with two seriously heavy remixes courtesy of San Franciscos's wonky house merchant 'Worthy' (from The Dirtybird Soundsystem) and a brand new name to remember 'Rudi Stakker' (aka Will Bailey from Twocker) who's remix has been causing an absolute storm - even prompting these remarks from guys who really know what they are talking about.....

Carl Cox "Love the Rudi Stakker"

Laurent Garnier "Rudi's mix is BIIIIG - this is a BIIIIG record"

Now those are recommendations worth following...!

DUSTBOWL "Step Up"/"The Dark Passenger/"Fire Still Burning"

Dustbowl-Small.jpg

Second release this month sees long time sparring partners Meat Katie & Elite Force back in the ring and unleashing their alternative techno project 'Dustbowl'. This, their debut EP, features three cracking tracks. "Step up" with its teasing builds and huge pay off at the back end; "The Dark Passenger" with its infectious bleepy techno groove and the utterly lush 'Fire Still Burning'

IDJ have already made it 'Top Tune' in their Feb issue, Austrian jazz house legend Peter Kruder (Kruder & Dorfmeister) commented "Great release. Love all the tracks" and the quality upcoming scottish house prodigy Milton Jackson took time out from his busy salmon poaching season to say "this is quality"! (ah bless!)

A variety of DJs are supporting this including: Martin Landsky, Satoshi Tomiie, John Selway, Chloe Thevenin (DJ Chloe), James Zabelia, Michel De Hey, Tom Pooks, Mr G, Paolo Mojo, Tim Green/TG , Chris Fortier, Dave Angel, Anderson Noise, Evil Eddie Richards, Riva Starr.... to name but a few ;-)

Both releases available NOW! through beatport

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
