Flaming Lips and Ke$ha Album No Longer Happening

Last year, Ke$ha was one of the many collaborators on the Flaming Lips' Record Store Day 12", Heady Fwends. It was a somewhat surprising pairing, but their loud, left-of-center pop leanings did seem to match, and Ke$ha was a professed fan. Lips frontman Wayne Coyne was so psyched about their hang time that he documented their work with Ke$ha in a series of tweets. He got her blood. She gave him a tattoo.

In April, Coyne announced that the band was at work on an entire LP with Ke$ha, under the apt working title of Lip$ha. Now, alas, Lip$ha has been shelved. Coyne wrote on Twitter today that the collaborative record is no longer happening, with no explanation. "As of now... sadly there will be no Lip$ha," Coyne said. "I can't say why... It is sad..."

Update: An earlier version of this story indicated that the Flaming Lips and Ke$ha did acid together during their recording session. They did not, though they came close.

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
