Brooklyn's Barclays Center Is The Country's Top Grossing Concert Venue

Is Brooklyn in the house? Definitely, thanks to the emergence of the Barclays Center. According to the new issues of Billboard and Pollstar magazines, Brooklyn’s new arena ranks as the top-grossing U.S. venue for concerts and family shows and has sold more tickets in these categories than any other venue for the first six months of 2013.

“We are proud to have become a destination venue that has been recognized globally in a short period of time,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center. “After receiving terrific feedback from promoters of major artists last week in Los Angeles, we are confident that we will expand our programming schedule and be in an even better position in year two of Barclays Center.”

The Barclays no doubt owes much of its success to the Brooklyn Nets, who call the arena home and Jay-Z, who opened the venue with a string of sold-out shows. The Magna Carta Holy Grail MC said in a recent interview with The Truth’s Elliott Wilson that he’d moved on to helming the Roc Nation Sports Agency because he’d done what he set out to do for BK.

"I think my job was done with the Nets," Hov said. "They got to Brooklyn. I played my part in that, even the look and design and attitude of the Brooklyn Nets."

Yormark hopes to duplicate the success of the Barclays with the renovation of Nassau Coliseum. Yormark, along with Jay, will downsize the mammoth arena to 13,000 seats, with a 2,500-seat outdoor amphitheater and 50,000 square feet of retail space built on-site.  â€œAs we prepare for the opportunity to renovate and operate Nassau Coliseum, we anticipate replicating our success at Barclays Center in Nassau,” he said.
