Bloc Party to Take Another Extended Break

Bloc Party will be going on an extended break once their Four cycle wraps up in July, the National Post reports (via the Guardian). Guitarist Russell Lissack told the Post that the band would take off  "At least six months, maybe a year maybe two years, it’s hard to say." He added, "Once we start taking time off, people start doing their own thing. So once people start doing things then you'll start naturally extending how long we spend apart."

Lissack said his wife told him: "Your life, I can't handle it. It's such a roller coaster of extreme highs and extreme lows." He added, "That’s quite representative of all the relationships in the band. Maybe we’ll play an amazing show and we’ll be on a real high and then the next day some minor thing will happen and everyone hates each other."

Lissack also said that the band will release an EP of new material this summer before they shut down operations.

And, of course, we've been through this before with Bloc Party, who took several years off following 2008's Intimacy before making a pretty dramatic, ceremonious return.

"The last record, Intimacy, when we toured that, it was probably more lows than highs due to the relationships in the band not being very good and lack of communication and people not enjoying what we were doing," Lissack said. "This time, before we set off on this record, it was something we discussed and I think we've been dealing with it a little better. Not a lot better but a little better."

Find the remainder of the band's summer schedule below.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
