Mark Hamill Opened Up About 'Episode 7'... In 1983

Ever since the news of the [url="http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1696481/disney-star-wars-episode-7-tips.jhtml"]new "Star Wars" trilogy[/url], it seems like everyone is combing the web for the latest scrap of news about Episode 7, 8, and 9. Who is going to direct? Will Luke, Leia, and Han be back? What about Chewie?

But low and behold, one of the juiciest bits of information has been out in the world for a while now. How long has the info been out, you ask? Just about 29 years, that's all.

Yep, days before the release of "Return of the Jedi," Maria Shriver interviewed Mark Hamill back in her days as TV journalist about the future of the series. The two talk openly about the concept of the saga as being made up of three distinct trilogies.



The retro interview gets interesting around the mid-point, when the conversation turns to Hamill's future with the series.

"I've heard that you've been hired to come back as Luke Skywalker in the last 'Star Wars' film 18 years from now," Shriver says. "Is that true?"

Hamill smiles and playfully does the math, imagining the future in the year 2004. (Can you imagine that?)

"You see, he's being very cagey because it's either going to be on another plane of existence or not the same character," Hamill says referring to George Lucas, "and I can't really tell you why without getting into sensitive material."

But he then goes onto say that "Return of the Jedi" has to be the last movie in the series, so what does 1983 Mark Hamill really know?
