Looks like the Orlando Magic aren’t just going to lay down in the 2012 NBA Playoffs. Not only did the Magic earn a gutsy win on the road against the Indiana Pacers, they did it with out superstar Dwight Howard, who had season-ending surgery last week.

The Magic, a number six seed, got key contributions from Jason Richardson and Jameer Nelson to beat the third-seeded Pacers 81-77.

In the MTV News Hip-Hop Playoffs the #3 seeded Taylor Gang is leading the #6 seed, G-Unit, earning 58% of the fan vote thus far in the Swagged Out conference match-up. The first round polls are still open, and the Taylors’ lead is indicative of the year that they had led by Hottest MC in the Game inductee Wiz Khalifa. In 2011 Wiz dropped his gold-selling debut album Rolling Papers, a collaborative album with Snoop and then also added free-agent veteran Juicy J to his roster.

The Taylor team chemistry seemed to culminate on Wiz’s 2012 mixtape taylor Allderdice, but G-Unit can never be counted out. There was a time when 50 Cent and his G-Unit squad were the biggest selling artists in rap. 50’s first two LPs (2003’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and 2005’s The Massacre) has sold over 13 million copies in the U.S. alone, but Fif and company have cooled off in recent years.Still that hasn’t stopped G-Unit from flooding the street with music.

CHECK OUT THE BALLER CONFERENCE

Last year 50 dropped his The Big 10 mixtape and Lloyd Banks released his highly anticipated The Cold Corner 2. Tony Yayo made noise with his “Haters” single and Fif went on to add Shawty Lo, Kidd KIdd and Precious Paris to his storied roster. Even though they are currently down in the vote, the Unit’s fan base is strong, making them a formidable foe for Wiz’s TGOD family.

The squad here at RapFix are looking forward to watching Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and the rest of the biggest stars lead their respective teams to victory. It’s the same way we look forward to rap’s biggest stars lead their teams to hip-hop dominance. So while the NBA sets forth to determine who the best ball team of the year is, RapFix is on a mission to find out who the best team in rap in our MTV News Hip-Hop Playoffs!

We examined the past year in hip-hop and identified the game’s 16 most dominant crews. Then we split them up into our either our Swagged-Out Conference or Baller Conference and created match-ups where you the fan can determine the winner based on your, votes.

A championship team is only as good as its weakest link, so we analyzed talent, sales success and overall influence to determine our 16 rap teams and come up with the proper seeding.

It’s not up to us, it’s up to you guys. Fans get to vote in order to determine who hip-hop’s ultimate crew of 2012 will be?

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
