The clock's ticking, "24" fans—and this time, we mean it!

Jack Bauer's big-screen return has long been in the works, with multiple script drafts turned in and even a director, Tony Scott, attached at one point. But now, at long last, it finally appears as though the legendary CTU agent's trip to theaters is on the fast track: according to Deadline, the "24" movie could start shooting as early as April 2012.

"Wolverine" and "Shadow Drivers" writer Mark Bomback is the latest talent to tackle the "24" screenplay, Deadline reports, though no directors are currently attached. 20th Century Fox and Imagine Entertainment reportedly have their eyes on five names for the director's chair, though Scott is no longer attached to the project.

Things are expected to start "happening very quickly in the early part of next year," so assuming that "24" is finally going forward, we should have some official news on the director and casting front before too much longer, perhaps as soon as this month. Between this news and word of "24: India," it's been a good few weeks for those of us who worship at the Church of Bauer — and it looks like the weeks ahead are only getting better.

Now, if only we can get official word on the return of Tony Almeida…

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
