Internet Explorer usage falls below 50%

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- For more than a decade, Microsoft's Internet Explorer has been the predominant tool the world uses to connect to the Web, but that's no longer true, according to a Web analytics firm.

For whatever reason, BK doesn't work for me with FireFox so I use IE. I also use IE for a very few other sites. Over 98% of the time I use Firefox. My son has moved away from FireFox to Opera or Chrome or some shit but I haven't tried those. IE crashes so damn often and has a bazillion other issues that I can't deal with. FireFox is easy for a redneck to use. With NoScript, AdBlock, AdBlock plus, AutoPager and SearchMenu as add-ons, FireFox is great for trailer park pirates.

I won't say that FireFox is better than sex but I will say it is better than sex with my wife.

Yes IE is going out of use. People find FireFox faster than IE. i think it needs to be modified with additional better features. People usually need a new product or atleast a new name in the market and seek new better features that suit their needs.

Significantly, the global use of Internet Explorer dropped below 50 per cent in September, to 49.87 per cent, which is 8.5 per cent down on September 2009. More worryingly for Bill and the gang, the usage figure is over 17 per cent down on September 2008.

And whilst Microsoft still holds the largest market share by a wide margin (Firefox sits in second place with 31.5 per cent), Google is clearly the form player, with a usage that has almost tripled within a year and gone from just over 1 per cent in September 2008 to almost 12 per cent last month.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
