Tsunami churns up Northland sea in NZ....

While the waves aren't especially large in New Zealand the tsunami affected us by creating very dangerous seas.

These pics, from WeatherWatch.co.nz , show the violent water churning off the normally calm coast at Mangonui NZ then heading into Mangonui harbour.

Sunday's tsunami still affecting seas around New Zealand....

The seas off New Zealand's east coast remained dangerous today more than 24 hours since a tsunami passed by reports WeatherWatch.co.nz.

WeatherWatch.co.nz also says although the seas are relatively calm people need to be aware of dangerous underwater rips that may not be visible.

The forecasting site recommended people stay out of the sea until at least Tuesday.

The attached GeoNet website gauge clearly shows a choppy sea...

Do the big waves challenge the surfers, or do they stay away?

no mate...they didnt stay away...every kiwi immediately gathered up every family member they could and off to the beach they frolicked to watch the tsunami waves roll in...after every media outlet in the country and the civil defence warnings to not head for the beach..this included surfers...
