Trying to find a song

So!

I'm looking for song that I heard a few months ago while I was stationed in NY. I'd call it blues, maybe soul. Maybe a little of both. I dunno'. The only thing I remember was the theme of 'That was a different time', which was repeated several times in the lyrics. The story was basically one of a son and father who lived near a young couple. Some type of hardship separated these two families after they had grown fairly close and it was years before they see each other again. Well, the son(?) sees the husband and basically tries to re-connect (Hey, come on over for dinner, how's the wife, etc.) but the husband tells him 'That was a different time' and there you have it. Anyone got any ideas? I know I probably described a lot of songs, but hey.

A Different World Lyrics - Bucky Covington (American Idol 2007)

2007-06-22 06:29:40

A Different World

We were born to mothers who smoked and drank

Our cribs were covered in lead-based paint

No childproof lids

No seatbelts in cars

Rode bikes with no helmets

and still here we are

Still here we are

We got daddy's belt when we misbehaved

Had three TV channels you got up to change

No video games and no satellite

All we had were friends and they were outside

Playing outside

It was a different life

When we were boys and girls

Not just a different time

It was a different world

School always started the same everyday

the pledge of allegiance, then someone would pray

not every kid made the team when they tried

We got disappointed but that was alright

We turned out alright

It was a different life

When we were boys and girls

Not just a different time

It was a different world

No bottled water

We'd drink from a garden hose

And every Sunday,

All the stores were closed.

It was a different life

When we were boys and girls

Not just a different time

It was a different world

It was a different life

When we were boys and girls

Not just a different time

It was a different world

It was a different world

Julia Fordham Different Time, Different Place lyrics

(written by Julia Fordham/Simon Climie)

We're all walking a fine line and I'm

Walking towards you, and I

Hope that I'm right in thinking, I'll never walk alone

I'm always running from something

Now I'm running towards you

It may not be the right thing, but it's what I want to do

And in a different time, in a different place

I could see myself with you

And in a different time and a different place

I believe you could see yourself too

I'll be biding my time, and I'll be

Watching my step, 'cos I don't want to

Be starting something here that I might live to regret

'Cos I have learnt my lesson

And I have learnt it well

There are some things in this life best left for time to tell

In a different time, in a different place

I could see myself with you

And in a different time and a different place

I believe you could see yourself too

In a different time, in a different place

I believe I could safely lay my life down in your hands

I believe that's what I'd do if you gave me half the chance

Oh I believe, oh I believe, oh I believe

In a different time, in a different place

I could see myself with you

And in a different time and a different place

I believe you could see yourself there too

In a different time, in a different place

I could see myself with you

And in a different time and a different place

Oh I believe you could see yourself there too

Different time, different place

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
