Burress sentenced to 2 years in gun case

As expected, receiver Plaxico Burress -- one of the heroes of Super Bowl XLII -- has been formally sentenced to two years in prison.

The term begins immediately.

With good behavior, Burress is expected to be eligible for release after 20 months.

Burress pleaded guilty last month in the face of felony charges arising from his decision to take a loaded Glock into a Manhattan night club in November 2008. His lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, opted to allow Burress to testify before a grand jury in the hopes of dodging an indictment. (The same tactic worked for Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce, who assumed possession of the gun after the shooting and took it to New Jersey.)

Common sense is at an all time low. I am a big supporter of gun rights and I carry one but......what a doofus to carry it into a bar. It's not the brightest idea to carry it without a license but only a real dipshit would carry it into a bar. He was just asking for trouble with the law, and he found it.

Kinda like Vick. At some point you need to think just a little. It wouldn't take much thinking to realize that someone in the spotlight (like he is) should not be in the dog fighting business part time. It's generally not the brightest career path for regular people. Professional quarterback side job??? gimme a break.

No kidding. Isn't it an oxymoron though to have common sense in a trailer park?

Trailer park people have enough common sense to fend for themselves. Instead of buying a $400k house they can't afford and then expecting Yobama to bail them out, they live in what they can afford. Generally, when trailer park people get unemployed for a few weeks, they don't wind up homeless and stand around for a government handout.

I love trailer park girls too.

They are just a tad on the nasty side of skanky.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
