Swine flu has taken hold of the internet, rapidly spreading across chatrooms, blogs and online forums - though many comments are in the form of jokes.

Hundreds of swine flu-related messages a minute are crossing the messaging service each minute with "swine flu" currently the top three trending topics on Twitter, according to Businessinsider.com.

While some users are expressing concern about the virus, many are retweets of news stories and others are jokes, such as: "I think I have the swine flu. I have the sudden urge to eat bacon and pork chops".

Online joke forums, including sickipedia.org, have also picked-up on the topic and include the following posts:

"The only known cure for Swine Flu has been found to be the liberal application of oinkment."

"Apparently my mate's got Swine Flu, I think he's just telling porkies, though."

"Will there be a mass outbreak of Human/Avian Swine flu? When pigs fly."

"So Pig Flu has started in America. Who says God doesn't have a sense of humour?"

Some of the jokes have a nastier undertone and include jibes regarding cross border contamination between the US and Mexico.
