Eddie Holman-Hey there lonely girl [1970]

Now a Baptist minister, this ex-Delfonics & ex-Stylistics singer went to #2 on the pop charts with this classic. The song was originally "Hey There Lonely Boy" recorded in 1963 by Ruby and the Romantics, but Mr Holman made it his own and will forever have a place in R&B/Pop ballad history.

In case anyone is interested here is the original song by Ruby and The Romantics. She did a good job but I can see why Eddie Holman's cover did better on the charts.

First time hearing the Ruby version, thanks. Eddie's falsetto and his riffs are what make that song. Ruby goes nowhere near as high as Eddie and she just sings it straight thru, never adding any life to it.

I agree 100%

She sings it beautifully but softly whereas he adds the edge to it to make it a hit.
