This was featured in the 1985 movie The Breakfast Club. Directed by John Hughes, it featured many members of the "Brat Pack," including Ally Sheedy, Molly Ringwald, and Judd Nelson. This was written by Steve Chiff along with Keith Forsey, who also wrote "Shakedown" for Beverly Hills Cop II and the title song to Flashdance... What a Feeling. This was originally offered to Billy Idol and then to Bryan Ferry (from Roxy Music) to perform, but both declined. Forsey was a big fan of Simple Minds, so he tried to get them to perform the song, which they did at the insistence of their record company. From Songfacts

Saw them live in 1984... I thought they were crap... but that's just my opinion. I hated paying a whole £6 to hear anyone sing off key.

They were crap; but...they were better than alot of crap; that is how bad the music was then. They had a couple good cuts

This album wasn't bad. They probably cleaned up the vocals just for you :)

I personally love this song. But then again, I'm a sucker for catchy 80's songs..haha
