I'll add a couple:

The Band - The Weight

Billy Joe Royal - Down in the Boondocks

Roy Orbison - Only the Lonely

Elvis - Are you lonesome tonight?

Dion - Runaround Sue

Del Shannon - Runaway

Marcels - Blue Moon

Gene Chandler - Duke of Earl

Beach Boys - I get around

Stones - Paint it Black

Sonny & Cher - I got you babe (snicker)

Beatles - Hey Jude

Simon & Garfunkel - Mrs. Robinson

I'll leave it there, but guys like Johnny Cash were considered rock back then too.
