Listen to Stormzy’s Version of Kanye’s “Ultralight Beam”

Stormzy has performed a version of Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo opener “Ultralight Beam” in session with BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo, as the Fader points out. Backed by gospel singers and a live band, Stormzy added his own verses to the track, concluding, “This is what it sounds like when south London meets salvation.” Listen here at 2:14:30. Introducing the cover, he said, “I love the message of the song. I love the musicality of the song. It’s one of my favorite songs.”

“Ultralight Beam” was Pitchfork’s #1 song of 2016. Stormzy’s debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, is out next Friday. Read Pitchfork’s Rising interview with the MC.
