No director has exploded on the scene in recent years quite like Damien Chazelle. 2014's Whiplash wasn't actually his directorial debut, but it is the movie that vaulted him right to the top of many, many people's must watch lists. It helps that Whiplash is an incredible film, but what really helped fuel the buzz that Chazelle was the 'next big thing' was his age-- he was only 29 when he made the Oscar-nominated movie.
