Getting Old On Lower Broadway

Recommended Posts

We came down here in sixty-one
Me and my parents to the Grand Ole Opry
Saw Marty Robbins play the Ryman
This town made an impression on me
A few blocks on the Cumberland River
Tootsie's, Legends, Ernest Tubb's
Starting to think it's a cemetery
No one knows who Ernest Tubb was

Here in Nashville, Tennessee
Time really flies in this here town
It's made an old man outta me
I came back here at twenty-nine
Knew from the start I's gonna stay
That was some forty years ago

Now it's Eric, Jason and Luke
Miranda, Kacey and Little Big Town
I'm still singing at WannaB's
This karaoke sure gets me down
Gotta watch out for those cops
Those bloodsuckers are everywhere
They'll pull you over, take your money
Take you to jail, they don't care

When I'm dead
Make this my grave
Bury me down
On Lower Broadway

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
