Karen O: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Currently on "Bit of a Hiatus"

Be patient, Yeah Yeah Yeahs fans: despite the release of frontwoman Karen O's solo album Crush Songs earlier this year, a proper follow-up to 2013's Mosquito will have to wait for now. In a new interview with NME, Karen O said that the band is "on a bit of a hiatus", adding that "the time needs to be right" before any new material emerges.

Speaking with NME, Karen O expressed a willingness to wait for inspiration. “We're on a bit of hiatus at the moment, so nothing yet," she said. "We have to wait to get the urge, get that itch. The time needs to be right and we're OK waiting for that, I think."  She added that when the jams resume, "it'll be like muscle memory, this unspoken thing between the three of us where it all just… locks in."

      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
