California Chrome

Being from Louisville, I always follow horse racing's Triple Crown: Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont. I was at Churchill Downs when Secretariat won the Derby in 1973 and again when Affirmed won it in 1978.

California Chrome is one win away from being the first Triple Crown winner in 36 years. He is strong. He has a sense of laying just right, then pouring it on at the head of the stretch. He seems to enjoy winning! It all comes down to the Belmont on June 7. If California Chrome wins, he will achieve immortality as a superhorse. If he loses, he will be forgotten with the others who won 2 out of 3. You can't trust the horses. I learned that back in Louisville. Still, I will be at the sports bar across the street rooting for this horse to do something almost impossible.

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
