Stream New Releases From Traxman, Wheedle’s Groove, and Arto Lindsay Via Advance

Da Mind of Traxman 2, the latest full-length from Chicago footwork producer Traxman, is out this week on Planet Mu. It's the follow-up to 2012's Da Mind of TraxmanIt's available for streaming right now via Pitchfork Advance, our immersive music streaming platform designed to emulate the classic album experience. Listen here until May 20.

Wheedle's Groove: Seattle Funk, Modern Soul & Boogie: Volume II 1972-1987 marks the second installment in Light in the Attic's Wheedle's Groove series, which digs deep into the sounds of Seattle's soul and funk scene from the 1960s to the 1980s. Compiled by DJ Supreme La Rock, the new volume - which arrives nearly a decade after the first - is slated for release digitally on May 20 and on LP and CD June 3. Give it an Advance spin here until May 21.

Experimental musician and downtown NYC figurehead Arto Lindsay is putting out a two-disc retrospective, appropriately titled Encyclopedia of Arto, May 20 via Northern Spy. The first disc features highlights from his solo albums from 1996-2004, while the second disc contains live recordings, including Prince and Al Green covers. Check it out here until May 20.

Advance is also currently streaming new releases from the Roots, American Football, CopelandEmma Ruth Rundle, and K. Leimer.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
